Godly Sexuality – Part 1

Godly Sexuality – Part 1

Recent polls on human sexuality suggest that most people in this country seem to think that sex outside of marriage is okay. Sex before marriage is even considered acceptable by those who profess to know Christ. Then you have those who claim that ‘love’ in any form is something to be cherished, whether between men and women, men and men or women and women. After all, who are you to ‘judge’ someone else concerning who they should love or not love? These thoughts can be compelling except for one thing – they fall short of the design God has provided for us in His Word.

Heb 13:4

 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (NKJV)

The increasing numbers of events we see in the news regarding sexual deviancy are just a symptom of a greater problem, and that problem is that a growing number of people don’t – or won’t – believe what is plain to see in God’s Word. This is true for a few different reasons. Many people don’t have a clue as to what is contained in the Word because they have never even heard it. Others dismiss it as ‘old fashioned’ or out of date. And then there are some who simply refuse to believe, even though it is made clear to them what God has said about sexual conduct. In each of these groups, the common thread is that there is a lack of application of God’s Word and principles in their lives. They go along making choices based on what they think is best, and as a result, most of them will harm themselves far beyond what they can imagine. Not only do they harm themselves, but they also harm those they claim to love.

To start out with we need to know what God did to get the ball rolling. Now, this may seem to be sacrilegious to some, but who do you think came up with the idea of sex in the first place? It was GOD;

Gen 2:21-25

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

And Adam said:

“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

New King James Version

God put all this together and, according to Him, it was a GOOD THING! The physiology of men and women was originally designed by God for a multitude of reasons, which we are going to get into during the next installments of this subject. However, we first need to keep a couple things in perspective; We need to understand that God originated physical sexual relationships as well as all the components that result from those relationships. If what we do sexually is based on God’s plan, then there are significant benefits for us – as long as we follow the plan. If we deviate from that plan, then heartache and disaster will follow. That is a Life Principle that can be applied to any of God’s provisions for us, but we shall see that it is especially true concerning sexual relations.

This is Part One of a multi-part series. Keep an eye out for the next installment!
